WINNER:

Engaging Alumni Networks to Demystify Enterprise
University of Westminster

Westminster has built an inclusive entrepreneurial network of over 3,000 students, graduates and alumni by creating a new Directorate bringing together student enterprise and alumni relations teams. Entrepreneurial alumni have become central to the delivery (and demystification) of enterprise education, engaging hard-to-reach groups in developing enterprise attributes and improved employability outcomes. Alumni-led intra and extra-curricular enterprise activities include mentoring, skills development and a growth programme for alumni-led SMEs. A new Centre for Enterprise and Employability will provide a focal point for growing this network and scaling delivery, enabling the University to deliver on its strategic commitment to social mobility.

Durham University Game Changer Innovation Programme
University of Durham

Since 2019, the Durham University Venture Lab team have been developing and delivering the Game Changer Innovation Programme to provide students with an exceptional opportunity to engage with, and have impact on, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Having received UN SDG Good Practice status in 2020, the programme has now engaged over 1,000 students and continues to provide a launchpad for purpose-driven innovation.

University of the West of Scotland
The Enterprise Team at UWS have transformed the enterprise landscape at their institution delivering high volume and high quality enterprise interventions which deliver meaningful impacts, outputs and outcomes across their internal and external communities. Amongst key successes they secured the Small Business Charter accreditation for UWS, operationalised the national Help to Grow Programme generating over £300000 in commercial income and launched the new Transformative Enterprise Research Group which disseminates their multi award winning approach to enterprise education. Individually the Enterprise Team displays the same entrepreneurial qualities they seek to develop in their students and clients and collectively they are an exemplar of how enterprise education can be delivered effectively and efficiently using a team based approach.

Effective activities supporting student start-ups in Cornwall 
Falmouth University

A highly effective team was formed between the Launchpad Venture Studio and MSc Entrepreneurship academics. By pivoting from the funded programme’s original structure, the two teams practiced what they preached by focussing on what their customers (students and local businesses) really needed.  As a result, in just 18 months the team delivered 75% of the total outputs for the five your programme.

At the University of Exeter a new entrepreneurship pathway has been created in order to increase engagement with the start-up services and other entrepreneurship and innovation provisions on offer and increase aspirations of intrapreneurial action and change agency in students from all disciplines. The pathway has a strong focus on environmental and social value creation as well as high impact economic value creation in all career destinations and seeks to embed entrepreneurship and innovation as a core focus for the University and establish a core focus on environmental, social and economic value creation and solution finding in all areas of activity. 
From start-up to scale-up: Rapid growth in entrepreneurship provision at the University of Essex
University of Essex

The Essex Startups team offers dedicated support to entrepreneurial-minded students and graduates with their start-up business endeavours. The team creates and delivers small to large scale workshops, mentoring programmes and funding opportunities to students and graduates at every stage of their entrepreneurial journey. Our mission is to guarantee every student across the University of Essex, regardless of background or area of academic study, can develop and fulfil their intra/entrepreneurial potential. Over the last four years alone, the team has provided 1,300+ one-to-one mentoring sessions, awarded over £300,000 in funding, and support the development of c.25 new start-ups each year.

Katrina Starkie
Nottingham Trent University

Katrina Starkie, the Space and Community Manager at Nottingham Trent University Enterprise, is a rising star in enterprise education. In her role, she commercialises the space and reinvests the revenue to support student enterprise initiatives. Katrina has created a vibrant and inclusive community, hosting networking events and promoting positive mental health among entrepreneurs. She goes beyond her job remit by leading the Entrepreneurs Club, inspiring students and helping them secure placements. With a visionary approach, commitment to student success, and passion for entrepreneurship, Katrina has the potential to deliver transformational impact in enterprise and entrepreneurship education.

Candace Elson
Robert Gordon University

Robert Gordon University’s, entrepreneurship and innovation agenda is an integral component of its strategy to contribute to social, cultural, and economic development regionally and nationally.  Working in the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Group, Candace Elson, the Innovation Manager (Regional), consistently demonstrates the highest level of dedication and an exceptional commitment to this aim, with a clear emphasis on the needs of her clients. With ‘Women in Business’ Candace has created and delivered a successful programme that has inspired a new generation of female entrepreneurs who have gone on to create new ventures, build supportive networks and had a positive economic, social, and cultural impact across the region.     
Ashley Evenson
Goldsmiths College

Ashley Evenson is a lecturer with the Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths, University of London, and has worked to expand the delivery the SYNAPSE programme across the whole of Goldsmiths, as well as in the communities of Lewisham, Peckham and Southwark. She also leads workshops around building inclusive and authentic narratives for budding entrepreneurs, with her own practice through Oval Productions. She has delivered SYNAPSE workshopsas well as Storytelling workshops with GoldsmithsLondon College of Fashion, Inspire Lewisham, Start up in Stride, The Hiive Collab in Uganda, Royal College of Art, Peckham Levels, and Activate Learning.

Pioneer in Enterprise Education – an exceptional individual who is actively influencing and driving transformational change and creating impact related to enterprise and entrepreneurship education or practice within their organisation and across the sector

Corinna Cory
University of Exeter

Dr Corrina Cory is Director of Education (E21-Engineering the Future) at the University of Exeter where she is currently rolling out the updated Engineering Programmes using multi-disciplinary Gold Standard Project Based Learning (GSPBL) with a focus on global engineering challenges and entrepreneurship. Engineering education is moving towards more active, experiential, project-based learning to prepare graduates for the 4IR so they can adapt to rapidly changing technology, develop 21st Century Skills and apply entrepreneurial competence to solve complex problems. She is truly a pioneer in enterprise education and an inspiration to colleagues and students across the institution.

Raphael Dennett
University of Exeter

Mr Raphael Dennett is currently leading the With Proficiency in Entrepreneurship pathway at the University of Exeter which has been created to increase students’ engagement with the start-up services and other entrepreneurship and innovation provisions and increase aspirations of intrapreneurial action and change agency in students from all disciplines. The pathway has a strong focus on value creation in all career destinations and seeks to embed entrepreneurship and innovation as a core focus for the University and establish a prevalent awareness on environmental, social, and economic value creation and solution finding in all areas of activity.
Dora Handrea
University of Edinburgh

Dora Handrea is the Lead Enterprise Executive in Edinburgh Innovations’ Student Enterprise Team at the University of Edinburgh. She has played an integral role in leading the Student Enterprise Team to help support the creation of 105 Startups in 2021-2022. Dora has led her team to deliver numerous collaborative events including the first Techstars Startup Weekend in Scotland since 2013. She has built and fostered relationships that have led to further embedding sustainability and EDI deeper into the enterprise and entrepreneurship offerings for students at the University of Edinburgh. She is also instrumental in embedding enterprise into the curriculum.
